Hand-held Analyzer Type 2250 –
Instruction Manual
2
1.2 System Overview
1.2.1 Introduction
This Instruction Manual describes the Type 2250 Hand-held Analyzer platform, including BZ 7222
Sound Level Meter Software for Type 2250 and BZ 7223 Frequency Analysis Software for Type 2250.
The instrument is based on a unique platform concept that allows the user to choose a combination of
options, thus ensuring the Type 2250 suits everyones exact needs. The options come in the form of
software modules that can be enabled through easily activated software license keys. They can be
enabled from the factory, or at a later date, whichever suits the user. The combination of the Sound
Level Meter (SLM) module and the Frequency Analysis module ensures that the right measurement
platform is created. As a result, the user gets the functionality needed now, plus the option of adding
more functionality later on.
The software modules are further enhanced by Brüel & Kjær’s post-processing software suite, including
BZ 5503 PC Software for Hand-held Analyzers for data transfer, setup and remote display (included),
Noise Explorer™ Type 7815 for viewing data, Evaluator™ Type 7820 for assessing environmental
noise and Protector™ Type 7825 for assessing workplace noise.
All instruments come with the SLM module enabled. This makes Type 2250 into a modern precision,
Class 1 Sound Level Meter. It fulfills all the requirements of IEC 61672-1, as well as earlier standards.
Type 2250 is delivered with a number of pre-defined measurement and display setups that are tailored
to suit specific purposes (for example, external noise measurement). The software includes facilities for
calibration procedures for checking the microphone condition.
1.2.2 Optional Software Modules
The software modules that are used in Type 2250 can be considered as blocks of optional functionality,
that can be enabled by license codes. Each of the software modules exploits the features and specifica-
tions of the hardware. The user chooses the combination that suits the current measurement and starts
measuring. If the application changes, the user purchases another license code and enables a different
software module. All the modules have a planned growth path and are developing continuously with
the product.
Presently, the only optional software module available is the Frequency Analysis Software Module,
BZ 7223, providing real-time analysis of the 1/1- and 1/3- octave filter bands.
1.2.3 Type 2250 PC Software – BZ 5503
A PC software application that incorporates the following features is included with the instrument:
• It enables you to create setups, edit them and store them on your PC beforehand, then connect Type
2250 and your PC together to synchronise the data between them
• It allows you to setup Type 2250 (before measurements) and retrieve data from Type 2250 (after
measurements) for postprocessing and reporting
• All settings and data from your jobs on Type 2250 can be displayed, so you can document the meas-
urements made
• Retrieved data is stored in a form recognised by Type 7815, 7820 and 7825 software
• It allows you to export data to Microsoft
®
Excel spreadsheets
• It enables you to remotely display the Type 2250 screen on your PC
This PC software for Hand-held Analyzers comes included on CD-ROM BZ 5298, Environmental
Software.
